Oh god, he's coming for me. No no no no no. I still have so much to say, so much to do! I won't let them take me. I'll run. Not again. Never again. I'll run and hide, but they'll find me. He always finds me. Must be a way death. death is a way out. Death is better than the blankest room. Goodbye. I can't go back there. Didn't want it to end like this. I'm not crazy. I can't go to that place again.

  4. I find it highly unlikely that this is it. It's interesting that Damien is now saying he's been "that place" before. Damien, if you're still alive, and still have an ounce of sanity, fight the good fight. Hang the fuck in there, dude.

  5. I'm crossing my fingers for you, Damien. Heck, even for you, too, TheArsonist. Be safe. Do not go gentle, my friend. Don't let this fragger screw with your head anymore. You can do this. You're capable. Godspeed, man. As always, I've got you in my thoughts and prayers.

  6. Wait, is this Damien speaking, or TheArsonist? And when whoever is speaking says "I can't go back there", is that referring to Damien's home? the mental institution? the red brick building?

Or maybe he's referring to that Limbo-type place that TheArsonist claims is where the souls of Ted, Amelia, and the others are currently trapped?

  7. I think that all of you deserve to know what happened to my brother. I found this blog last night, after finding two full notebooks devoted to it amongst Damien's possessions. After reading this site and those notes, while I still wish what occured yesterday hadn't happened, I feel I didn't have any other choice.

Damien's dead. He killed himself as I, two police officers, and attendants from the local insitution my mother once stayed in were trying to get inside his home to speak with him about check in for evaluation.

Ever since Ted died, Damien hasn't been the same. I've always been worried about my brother. He took after our mom, paranoid and prone to outbursts. He'd been checked into the institute once before, when he first snapped and had to be put on antipsychotics. I always thought he had gotten it under control, though. I never knew it'd develop into whatever it is this is.

I first started paying serious attention when he stopped answering my phone calls about two weeks ago. I ended up going to his home. When he screamed and ran away from the door earlier this week as I tried to get him to let me inside, I knew something was wrong. When all he did when I banged on his window was stare at me, I decided he needed help.

After reading this blog, it's clear that Damien's view on current events are completely warped out of recognition to the point where they're damn near fiction. I feel you should know what actually happened, as far as I am aware.

Ted died under mysterious circumstances. That death, and the deaths of Emily and Vincent, are still under investigation. I believe that the combine weight of these three killings are what changed Damien.

Amelia did die in a car accident. From what she told me, however, her mother was never in the hospital. Damien never mentioned their relationship had been incredibly rocky in those final days, spurred on by the changes in his behavior. She had actually left town for good. She died on her way to the grocery store, not back to Damien.

The child kidnapping case was solved. The bastard was gunned down by police, and one child was actually saved. It wasn't some unknown monster.

I don't know what is going on with this whole Slender Man nonsense, except it was something Damien became absolutely obsessed with, even before Ted died. After it happened, it only became worse. What rare moments I saw him, he was constantly glancing over his shoulder and making veiled reference to this "threat" to him from his "past".

Which, by the way, is highly fictionalized. The drawings he supposedly found are all new. Our father was far shorter than depicted. Our mother was a brunette. We didn't have an "Uncle Eddie". Max is about the only real thing out of that "family portrait".

Our mother did kill our father. That's true. But it was during one of her hysterical rages. I was fortunate enough not to be home. Damien wasn't.

She did die of a heart attack while screaming about a faceless man in black. That is, honestly, kinda scary, but that's a description of Death, so perhaps she simply knew her time was coming.

That large, red building isn't in some woods somewhere, it's in a park. You can see the road and some trees in one of his photos. I'm pretty sure it's an abandoned water power planet, and I doubt Damien could have gotten inside. Even if he did, there's probably not some passage leading deep inside the earth, considering it's placed over a river.

Matthew Wilcox was our pastor in, as far as I'm aware, a perfectly normal Christian church that was held in his home. I believe he was killed by his brother, and I'm turning his computer and notebooks over to the police after this. The image that his supposed alternate personality linked him to should be more than enough evidence to close this case. I'd be shocked my brother was a murderer, if it wasn't for all this insanity he's dug himself into.

  8. I believe that covers most of what happened here on the blog. As for the notebooks... It's like he was brainstorming for a story involving people in his life.

There's pages about Ted playing a prank and having this "Slender Man" show up instead, that I can only presume he wrote after his break from reality as another coping mechanism. Mentions of his ex-girlfriend being a member of the "cult" or of being aligned with his "Arsonist" personality. Constant linked references to our mother and the myth of Orestes, including an "alternate" transcript of what "transpired" when he went to see her where he killed her. Lots of deaths, actually: his work manager, Simon, Kiera, me, my girlfriend...

There's a reference in here to ancient cave drawing. I can only presume he used it to create this weird horse bone that are among his things. There's talk of being captured by the "cult" and being put down on a slab and sacrificed because "I have turned myself into a door for the unseen, and they wish me to be opened." A few pages on the theory that he is his own demon, "Slender Man" being merely a projection to stay his conscience.

The last writing seems to be from the viewpoint of The Arsonist, claiming he's finally taken Damien over completely. That he had always been this lurking idea of containing and restraining a monster's power and using it ever since he "saw him". That he was going to use the symbols on the bone to somehow control this fictional monster, and use it to bring order to a chaotic world. There's a note saying the "story" would then be laid to rest for several months until a random twitter comment about "The Master's Insanity Is Beautiful".

I'm sure there must be some symbolism or deeper meaning in this story that my brother invented to keep himself living after he lost nearly everything. Clearly, it meant something to him. It feels like this desparate cry for help hidden inside a fictional account of actual events. I truly wish I would have found out about this sooner and given him the help he needed so badly. I miss the brother I knew before this madness twisted him into something else entirely.

...I think that's just about everything. If you have any questions at all, I can try to answer them to the best of my abilities. I'll be trying to get into this blog's account to have it deleted eventually, but who knows how long that will take and if I'll ever accomplish it. Maybe I'll let it stand as a final testemant to the brother I knew, and as a tragic look at a fall into insanity. I haven't decided yet.

  9. Huh, that was fairly unexpected.

It sounds like you've done a lot of legwork already, and Damien could've only killed himself less than 24 hours ago. Did you already know most of this stuff, or do you just work very quickly?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Already knew most of what was actually going on because they're either publicized events (the murders) or things going on just as much in my life (our mom's death, our past).

Damien's notebooks and this blog filled in the details of what I didn't know.

    ReplyDelete
  11. As I presumed. Be it a real thing or just a manifestation of his psychosis, the bone succeeded in either dragging Slender Man into our world(via Damien's paranoia), or Damien into his. Out of curiosity Rick, how was your relationship with Damien? Early on he seemed to be linking you to the "pranks" pulled on him, even if that was a facade. Perhaps he was repressing some ill will towards you, thus why your presence seemed to dictate that of Slender Man?

Regardless, I'd advise you to not look too closely into Damien's notes. If you do, you may develop his obsession. For was it not Nietzche who once said, "And be careful how long ye stare into the abyss, for the abyss may begin to stare into you?" Despite his mental problems, Damien seemed a moderately rational fellow. Genetics has a crude sense of humor, and trying to piece together how he was thinking may doubtless lead you down his path. Just a friendly warning.

    ReplyDelete
  12. ...Well...that's...depressing...I'm sorry for your loss.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm sorry for your loss, and I don't mean to sound insensitive by saying this, but you may want to contact whoever was in charge of the experimental medication he talked about taking earlier in this blog. I'd also say maybe you should call a lawyer considering how everything went down, but at the very least you should let the company know about the effects these drugs may have had on him.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

  15. This is a sad, sad piece of news to come home to. I'm very, sincerely sorry for your loss, Rick. I can't put in words how much. You're in my prayers. I know that this journal of Damien's sounds like the ravings of a madman, but don't sell your brother short. There's a lot more to the story than meets the eye.
    ~The Quick

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Quick: Sometimes it's best just to let sleeping dogs lie, eh? Regardless of whether I believe your brother was more than a madman or not, I cannot in good conscience suggest that you explore his notebooks. Rick, I know you may be curious, but recall the old saying about curiosity. Though this be madness, there is method in't, and whether the trap is simply that madness or something more, I'd advise you to avoid it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Gentleman Caller: You've got a solid point there, sir. The last thing we need is more casualties. It's just a crying shame that Damien, who sounded like he'd stand a solid chance against our dear slender friend, went out with such a sad showing. Anon brings up an interesting counterpoint, however. Perhaps Damien isn't truly dead, which is what I'd prefer to hope is the case, even if it isn't very likely.

    1. Chance are that his password was "DrWho"

      Delete
  20. @The Quick: But there is only one way to best our slender foe, and the answer lies inside the very way he operates: Through control. It's a game. This is seen multiple times throughout Marble Hornets, and only when the game ceases to be amusing does, if you will pardon the expression, "shit get real". I hold that there is only one winning move in this game, and that is not to play. Slender Man only takes those obsessed with him, and perhaps in his psyche this can be seen as a reward for their diligence. I, for one, refuse to play by his rules any longer. I won't try to beat him, in fact, I won't even take my turn. He can sit there for eternity and wait for me to move, but I won't. Only in this can he be defeated.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Anonymous: Maybe Damien has Firefox? That would mean that the password would be automatically saved. Could you verify this, Rick?

    Two other things, Rick:

1)You mention that Matthew Wilcox was your family's pastor. Damien made a post much earlier ranting against the idea that God exists. Did Damien reject the Christian faith on his own? Or did your whole family turn to atheism? I hope these questions of faith aren't too personal; but I feel that the more we know about Damien's beliefs and his relation to his family, the better we can understand the whole context of this blog.

2)Regardless of whether you believe this whole Slender Man mumbo-jumbo or not, I think that it might be a good idea to get the police to investigate the red brick building. Damien seems to have at least visited the vicinity, even if he never actually entered the building itself. There might be some clues that might bring further light to Damien's apparent descent into madness.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wait a tick...Rick, was Damien, well, identifiable? I know this is a very personal question, but are you 100% sure the body you found was Damien's? Because honestly? This wouldn't be the first time he or his alternate persona TheArsonist would have killed someone to serve as the means to his ends. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but if the body wasn't identifiable to you, if you aren't sure it was him, then Damien could be out there, he could be angry, and he could be very, very dangerous. I think we can both agree that, no matter what, your brother is in a very bad state right now if he is alive, and if he is still out there you need to find him immediately and get him some help.

  28. Truthfully, it just seems like the storyteller's run out of steam on this one. A pity, since it was extremely creative and well-written--and detailed! Alternate accounts, stories within stories, AND a "brother" with his own take on the events? Wow, talk about a surplus of imagination!

At any rate, this was a most entertaining read, even if the ending was somewhat less than stellar. If I were a creative writing teacher, it would definitely earn an A+! ;)

  39. HIM. It is true that he causes psychosis in his victims. One of our main theories is that exposure to the HIM created totheark. The stress of being constantly hunted down and driven insane by HIM could cause a person to create multiple identities. One to forget about the HIM and one to Deal with HIS threat. This would explain blackouts. We are currently watching J but we were hoping that TheArsonist Case would have concluded our investigation. Sadly we can gain nothing definite from this story, especially now.

However, I do not mean to detract from this tragedy. We wish best wishes to any friends or family he may have left, and wish to let them know that We push forward to ensure that no one meet the same fate.

  43. I doubt this is real. Slenderman was a myth created around June 2009 by some guy on the internet(http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/slender-man), and since then was heavily used in videos, stories, etc.
Though some people might say it's real, it's caused by extreme paranoia, fear, imagination, whatever in my opinion. There is nothing supernatural. The human mind just is too powerful.

  70. I don't know if any the folks on this forum are fans or even readers of Neil Gaiman, But The Slender Man shares many characteristics with The Margrave from The Books of Magick. Or possibly vice versa, though I doubt it since there seems to be little mention of Slender Dude before 2009.

  73. Pretty freaked out after reading this all in one go. It's one of those blogs that leaves me questioning whether it's real or not... crazy.

  74. C'mon folks, this is very clearly not real. This is a game. A fun, scary game. A game of anonymity and hidden heroes and possible horrors we could never conceive of.

  75. 10/10

This Blog has been excellent. But I must go, so goodbye Damien, Rick, The Arsonist, Ted, Emily, Vincent, Simon, Wilcox, and of course Slendy (assuming he was ever here to begin with).

Thanks for one hell of a ride.

  77. Very entertaining read, I especially liked the twist with Rick. I also liked that it was a story told using three websites and not thirty. I hope you continue writing, and that you get published (if you do, mention this blog somewhere so we'll know it's you).

Also, you totally saw the little message I put in the last paragraph. And, if you didn't, here's a hint: Go back and look at every capital letter I put in there, minus the ones at the beginning of the sentences and the first and second words. It's just a joke, I promise. At least, I HOPE it's just a joke...
